Preventative and Children’s Dentistry
Preventative Dentistry is all about minimising the effects of dental disease, mainly
tooth decay, (dental caries) and gum disease. We are also concerned with the
treatment of bad breath problems, tooth clenching and grinding.
It is about ensuring that a healthy mouth is maintained in that state. The dental team
and individual patient work together to achieve and maintain optimum dental health.
It also involves the use of Bite-Guards for contact sports and people who grind their
teeth in their sleep. Appropriate advice for each and every patient is readily available
from the dental team.
Educating young people to look after their teeth and gums is one of our paramount
roles. They should not need the drill and fill repairs endured by their parents.
Dietary advice and oral hygiene instructions are freely given by our hygienist on a
one to one basis with (or without) parents present. We strongly recommend fissure
sealing of most posterior teeth where necessary and orthodontic treatment is
probably required for the majority of young teenagers. Age
however, is not a barrier to having your teeth straightened.
