Dr Michael Gould was born in Leeds in 1950. He was educated at Roundhay School before going to Downing College, Cambridge and the London Hospital to study medicine. After several medical jobs in and around London, he moved to Leeds to do a medical rotation at Leeds General Infirmary and obtained the MRCP in 1977. He joined Dr Whitmore in 1979. Dr Gould is married to Carol, also from Leeds and they have two grown up children.

Dr Jawad Al-Timman was born in Baghdad in 1954. He qualified from Baghdad University in 1978 and held several medical posts before moving to Leeds in 1985. He gained the MSc in 1987 from Leeds University and his PhD, also from Leeds in 1991. He did a Research Fellowship for two years. Dr Al-Timman held several medical posts in and around Leeds and passed the first part of the MRCP in 1996 and received a diploma in Family Planning in 1999. He has a special interest in cardiology and holds a Hospital Practitioner post in Cardiology at the Leeds General Infirmary. Dr Al-Timman is married to Suhad and has two grown up daughters.
