Welcome to the 2011 tennis season
which will be our 45th year.
FIRST AMERICAN TOURNAMENT
To start off the social season, an American Tournament will be held
on Saturday 16th April at 2pm. Do try to support this event, as we believe
it provides the best means of developing the social side of the Club.
Please look out on the notice board for the announcement of future tournaments.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL
Members wishing to renew their membership should complete the attached
form and send it together with their subscriptions to the Membership
Secretary, Julia Green asap. Please do include your e-mail address,
as we will use it to keep in touch with you. This year we are again
using lace tags to identify members – please wear them.
ANNUAL CLUB TOURNAMENT
Tournaments will be held for Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles,
Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Provisional start date is June with
the Finals in September. Watch the noticeboard for details.
TEAM TENNIS
The Club runs a number of doubles teams in the Leeds, York and Barkston
Ash leagues. The York league is primarily on Sunday mornings with teams
of six (mens and ladies doubles) playing about fourteen matches. The
Leeds league is played on Thursday evenings for the mens teams of four.
The Leeds Medley team of four men and two ladies play on Tuesday evenings.
There are about ten matches for each team. The Barkston Ash teams are
mixed teams of six men and women with the first team playing on Tuesday
evenings and the second team on Thursday evenings. There are about twelve
matches for each team.
MATCH PRACTICE
The team selection process was started in January and squads and captains
have been selected. However if you’re not in a squad and would
like to play team tennis please return the enclosed Team registration
form with your membership renewal.
Match practice sessions will be held at the end March/beginning April
on Sunday mornings. Specifically these will be held between 10 –
12 noon on 27th March, 3rd, 10th and 17th April. Please do attend if
you wish to be considered for any of the teams and do not be concerned
if you feel that you are not of the required standard. Contact Nicola

Adult Coaching Sessions together with additional sessions throughout
the week. Please check separate Junior Newsletter for details and timings.

would like to book a place and/or request further information.
Richard is also available for private 1:1 coaching.
PAVILION AND COURT ACCESS
Members should note that the Club continually has to contend with the
nuisance and cost of attacks on the Club premises by vandals. Please
remember to lock the courts, pavilion and gate after use. Codes for
the gate and pavilion can be obtained from the Membership Secretary.
Parents of junior members are reminded that juniors are not allowed
access to the pavilion unless an adult is on site. Please do not pass
on the security code to any juniors.
The courts are available for hire by the public at a charge of £10.00
per hour and a key is held by YEADONS hardware shop on the High Street
for non-members.
MAINTENANCE OF COURTS & PAVILION
The Club makes every effort to maintain our courts and grounds. Please
support us by collecting balls, clearing any rubbish that you might
see and tidy up the pavilion after use.
COURT ETIQUETTE/VISITORS.
Guidelines regarding visitors and court etiquette are posted on the
notice board. In particular please remember to wear tennis kit and tennis
shoes. Members are reminded that Club Sessions are open to all members
irrespective of ability and members attending Club Sessions must be
prepared to mix in.
FLOODLIGHTS
Tokens to operate the floodlights are available from Richard Widnall
(07931 220273) at a cost of £2.00 for half an hour. Please telephone
to arrange purchase. The token machines & operating instructions
can be found in the pavilion. Members are able to play at night up to
21.30. No tokens are kept in the pavilion.
WIMBLEDON TICKETS
Tickets will be on sale again this year from our LTA allotment. Lists
of available tickets will be posted in the pavilion. Tickets are only
available to members of the club who are also members of British Tennis.

CHILD PROTECTION POLICY
The Club has a Good Practice/ Child Protection Policy in place. The
Club will ensure, therefore, those Club Members and volunteers working
with young people are aware of and apply the LTA Code of Conduct for
those working with Children in Tennis. The Club Child Protection Policy
Statement is on the notice board.
CLOTHING
We now have polo shirts and sweatshirts with the club logo available
for sale. Please support your club by wearing our strip. Contact Richard

NB On social tennis sessions:-
When people are waiting to play, sets should be 5 games in winter (Nov
to Feb) and 7 in summer (Mar to Oct)
All players are to rotate off court with those waiting.
For those members who want to play outside these sessions
there is usually court availability any week daytime and after 4pm Sat
or 2pm Sun. There is often 1 court available at all other times.
